2011 Jaguar XF Premium

385 HP V8 Sedan

There’s a lot to like about the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek. It offers standard all-wheel drive, a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, and a roomy interior and cargo area. If you’re an outdoor person and you don’t like trucks or tall SUVs, or you live in snowy, slippery winter weather, it’s a compelling choice. At its core, the Crosstrek is a more rugged version of the Subaru Impreza, with a beefed-up suspension, higher ground clearance and trail-ready styling. This one is equipped with a manual transmission if you prefer commanding your own gear changes.

The Crosstrek is a sure-footed machine with coordinated steering, handling and brakes. It’s quite capable in snow and on dirt roads, too.  The Crosstrek offers a decent amount of head- and legroom front and rear. The cockpit is adjustable enough for the driver to settle into a comfortable position that gives a good view of the outside.  On the exterior this Crosstrek suffered from [...]

2020 Hyundai Kona

Perfect Daily Driver

Like many rental companies, Enterprise is downsizing their fleet during the current Covid19 pandemic.  For sale is a like new 2020 Hyundai Kona SUV.  Hyundai’s entry into the compact crossover segment is definitely one that hits all the boxes.  Under the hood is a 4 cylinder that puts out 147 HP via a 4 cylinder 6 speed automatic transmission.  It may not be the fastest crossover but with more than 30 MPG this makes for the perfect daily driver.  With a shorter wheelbase the Kona is a lot of fun to drive. Bumps and dips in the road are absorbed nicely with a solid dampening system.

The interior is all about comfort and convenience.  The seats up front wrap the adult driver comfortably and the rear seats provide ample head and legroom. On top of the dashboard is a 7 inch infotainment screen.  Switching between the common menus is easy and intuitive.  Users also have [...]

2017 Honda Civic Type R

Track Rat, Daily Driver and Sport Utility!
The 2017 Honda Civic Type R is the high-performance version of Honda’s compact hot hatch. Based on the Civic hatch, the Type R gets rid the turbo 1.5-liter inline-four for a 306 horsepower turbo 2.0-liter engine. Power is sent to the front wheels through a slick 6-speed manual. Standard equipment includes a limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes and adaptive dampers.  Zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, 1.02 g of lateral grip, and the ability to stop from 70 mph in 142 feet—in a tweaked, front-wheel-drive commuter car with 61.8 percent of its 3111 pounds resting on the front wheels. So, yeah, extremely solid.  The Type R traverses pockmarked pavement better than nearly any other car with this much stick. Even with its driving-mode selector in its full-attack +R setting—which slightly weights up the steering over the lesser Sport and Comfort modes and puts the three-position adaptive dampers in their firmest tune—the ride is fully livable. [...]

2006 Mazda Miata

Low miles

Just as the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata carries on the look and feel of a classic British roadster, it delivers those wind-in-hair thrills with even better-than-expected performance. The 2006 Miata’s four-cylinder engine—a 170-hp, 2.0-liter four—is very responsive and rev-happy, with sports car-perfect handling, quick short-ratio steering, and short-throw manual transmissions that are a joy to run through the gears. It’s not a lot of power, but since the Miata weighs less than 2,500 pounds it can nevertheless get to 60 mph in about seven seconds. A near perfect 50/50 weight distribution makes its handling predictable, and the quick-ratio steering is both secure at speed and extremely fast for parking or emergency maneuvers. The Miata handles like a go-kart at low speeds and shows a surprising degree of poise for higher track speeds.

The standard soft top is easy to use and surprisingly weather-tight. Just flick the header latches and flip it over the shoulder (most [...]

Nissan’s 2016 Versa compact sedan isn’t going to win much praise from those who think compact cars should be quick and fun to drive. But, for commuters, college kids and first-time buyers, the Versa’s comfortable ride, peppy engine and slick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission will probably win two big thumbs up. We found the Versa’s steering properly assisted and its turning radius nice and tight. Visibility is excellent and the seats are firm with good head- and legroom both front and rear. The Versa’s available CVT automatic transmission, on the other hand, takes some getting used to. It doesn’t use conventional shift points and causes the engine to rev high more often than one might expect. Of course, with only 109 horsepower on tap, getting the Versa to move quickly often requires nailing the gas pedal to the floor, but once underway the little Nissan scoots along just fine.  This example is the S Plus version [...]
